The chytrids are the most primitive of the fungi and are mostly saprobic (degrading chitin and keratin). Many chytrids are aquatic (mostly found in freshwater). There are approximately 1,000 chytrid species, in 1,000 genera, distributed among 5 orders. Both zoospores and gametes of the chytrids are mobile by their flagella, one whiplash per individual. The thalliThallus is an un differentiated vegetative tissue (without specialization of function) of some non-mobile organisms, which were previously known as the thallophytes. Even though thalli do not have organized and distinct parts ( leaves, roots, and stems) l are coenocytic and usually form no true myceliumMycelium is the vegetative part of a fungus consisting of a mass of branching threadlike hyphae that exists below the ground or within another substrate. It is through the mycelium that a fungus absorbs nutrients from its environment. Mycelium is also a v (having rhizoids instead). Some species are unicellular.
Some chytrid species are known to kill frogA frog is a fresh-water amphibian which changes from a tadpole and is of the family Ranidae in the Order Anura. They are closely related to toads. The Ranidae are sometimes called the "true frogs" since a few members of other families also have common nams in large numbers by blocking the frogs' respiratory skins — the infection is referred to as chytridomycosis. Decline in frog populationsSince about 1950, the populations of many species of amphibians ( frogs, toads, salamanders and newts) throughout the world have declined markedly; some species have become extinct. In many instances, these declines are attributable to adverse human influ led to the discovery of chytridomycosis in 1998 in AustraliaAustralia is the sixth-largest country in the world (geographically), the only one to occupy an entire continent, and the largest in the region of Australasia. Australia includes the island of Tasmania, which is an Australian State. Its neighbouring count and Panama. Chytrids may also infect plant species, maize-attacking and alfalfa-attacking species have been described.
