Chita ( Russian: Чита́) is a city in Russia, and is the administrative center of Chita Oblast. It is located at the confluence of the Chita and Ingoda rivers.

Population: 316,643 ( 2002).

Known since 1653, town status since 1851.

From 1920– 1922 it was the capital of the Far East Republic.
