ΧΨ (Chi Psi) is the oldest social college fraternity. On May 20, 1841, 10 students at Union College created the society with emphasis on the fraternal and social principles of a brotherhood, rather than the literary characteristics of existing societies.

As of February of 2004 Chi Psi consists of 34 chapters, each of them called an "Alpha". Chi Psi's official colors are purple and gold.

Notable alumni include: Prince Albert of Monaco, Stephen Ambrose Bill Belichick, Clarence Birdseye , Nicholas Brady , Arne Carlson, Orville Freeman, Melville Fuller, David Gardner , John Gavin , H. John Heinz III, Richard Helms, Waite HoytWaite Hoyt ( September 9, 1899 August 25, 1984) was a baseball player and one of the dominant pitchers of the 1920s. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969.
