Caroline is a town located in Tompkins County, New York, located apporximatly 7 miles southeast of Ithaca, along New York Route 79. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,910.

1 Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 142.7 km˛ (55.1 mi˛). 142.5 km˛ (55.0 mi˛) of it is land and 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.13% water.

2 Demographics

As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 2,910 people, 1,161 households, and 758 families residing in the town. The population density is 20.4/km˛ (52.9/mi˛). There are 1,254 housing units at an average density of 8.8/km˛ (22.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 92.85% White, 3.09% African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.86% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 2.13% from two or more races. 2.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,161 households out of which 33.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.9% are married couplesMarriage is a relationship that plays a key role in the definition of many families.
