Carlton is a suburb located north-east of the city of Melbourne, Australia. It was founded in 1851, during the Gold Rush. Its popualation is 17,052 (including 7,977 in Carlton North in 1986). The town is noted for its diverse population of Italians, and Jewish immigrants

It is home for some of Melbourne's most historically significant buildings such as Trades Hall and The Exhibition Building.
