Cambourne is a new town about fifteen miles (24 km) west of Cambridge, England, lying in the district of South Cambridgeshire and the county of Cambridgeshire, comprising three villages: Great Cambourne, and the smaller Lower Cambourne and Upper Cambourne. The name of the town was created from the names of Cambridge, the nearest city, and Bourn , the nearest village. Construction of the town began in 1998 on what was previously farmland; the final population is expected to be around 10,000.
Cambourne now contains the headquarters of the District Council, which moved here from the centre of Cambridge in 2004.
