CKND is a television station which broadcasts out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is part of the Global Television Network.
The station's history can be traced back to 1959, where its predecessor, KCND , went on the air in Pembina, North Dakota.
In the early 1970s, Peter M. Liba, who was then the executive assistant to Izzy AsperIsrael Izzy Harold Asper ( August 11, 1932 October 7, 2003), Canadian tax lawyer and media magnate, was the founder of CanWest Global Communications Corp. Asper was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba, the son of musicians who had emigrated from Ukraine. In 1957, spotted an advertisement from the CRTC which called for applications for a new Winnipeg television station. Liba suggested that he and Asper make a bid.
Asper flew to TexasTexas joined the United States of America as its 28th member state in 1845. It has the postal abbreviation TX . The state name derives from a word in a Caddoan language of the Hasinai, tejas meaning friends or allies Spanish explorers mistakenly applied t and back many times over the next few months to convince KCND's owner, Gordon McLendon, to sell the station. Eventually, McLendon sold the station to Asper for $750,000.

CKND's current call letters were obtained by reversing the K and C in KCND.
