Butler County (standard abbreviation: BU) is a county located in the U.S. State of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 59,482. The county seat is at El Dorado.

1 Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,746 km˛ (1,446 mi˛). 3,698 km˛ (1,428 mi˛) of it is land and 48 km˛ (19 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.28% water.

The median income for a household in the county is $45,474, and the median income for a family is $53,632. Males have a median income of $38,675 versus $26,109 for females. The per capita income for the county is $20,150. 7.30% of the population and 5.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.00% of those under the age of 18 and 6.40% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
