Buckbeak is a hippogriff, a magical beast in the fictional Harry Potter book series by J. K. Rowling.
Harry Potter and his friends are introduced to Buckbeak in one of Hagrid's Care of Magical Creatures lessons at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He lightly injures Draco Malfoy when provoked, and is, to Hagrid's dismay, subsequently sentenced to death at the behest of Lucius Malfoy (Draco's father). Yet near the end of the novel, Harry and Hermione Granger succeed in rescuing Buckbeak and wrongly convicted killer and escaped prisoner Sirius Black (who happens to be Harry's godfather). Sirius escapes on Buckbeak's back, and Buckbeak makes brief appearances with Sirius in Harry Potter and the Goblet of FireHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book in the Harry Potter series by J.
