Box Elder County is a county located in the U.S. State of Utah. As of 2000, the population is 42,745. It was named for the box elder trees with which the county abounds. Its county seat is Brigham City 6.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 17,428 km˛ (6,729 mi˛). 14,823 km˛ (5,723 mi˛) of it is land and 2,605 km˛ (1,006 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 14.95% water.
As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 42,745 people, 13,144 households, and 10,804 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km˛ (8/mi˛). There are 14,209 housing units at an average density of 1/km˛ (2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 92.87% White, 0.17% Black or African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.96% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 3.45% from other races, and 1.60% from two or more races. 6.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 13,144 households out of which 47.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.00% are married couples living together, 7.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.80% are non-families. 16.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.22 and the average family size is 3.63.
In the county, the population is spread out with 36.10% under the age of 18, 10.50% from 18 to 24, 25.40% from 25 to 44, 17.70% from 45 to 64, and 10.40% who are 65 years of age or older.
