A extensive tunnel and bridge system, Trekantsambandet, connected Bømlo to the mainland and neighboring island Stord on April 30 2001. The main underwater tunnel is 7860 m long, and reaches 260 m under sea level. The main bridge to Bømlo is 998 m long, its tower reaching 105 m above sea level.
