Benmore Peak Observatory (BPO) is an amateur astronomical observatory situated at 1,894 meters (6,210') above mean sea level atop the Benmore range near the southern end of the Mackenzie Basin, in the South Island of New Zealand. The BPO site experiences minimal levels of artificial light pollution. The nearest population centers are Omarama (pop. <400) and Twizel (pop. <1,100). The observatory was founded in 1996 and is open to both professional and amateur astronomers. BPO is 57 kilometers (35.5 miles) south of Mount John University Observatory.
