Home > Bench grinder
An electrically driven abrasive wheel (normally a pair of wheels) mounted securely on a pillar or a bench. Used for sharpening lathe tools or shaping metal. Wire brush wheels are often mounted for cleaning crud off work-pieces. Wood should never be ground on a wheel, as it can clog it up and cause the wheel to burst , with painful results. Goggles need to be worn to protect your eyes from sparks flying off. The dust from grinding can also be hazardous. An emergency stop switch or pedal should be fitted close to the bench grinder.Contrast with Angle grinder and Grinding machine.
