Players were finally able to play as Barney in the Half-Life expansion . In the end of the game, you, along with a few other scientists, manage to escape from the Black Mesa Research Facility.

In the sequel Half-Life 2, Barney greets you again as one of the lead characters. Due to the mysterious end of the game, his fate is unknown, although it is unlikely that it is the last time we will see this well liked character.
