Babe (also known as Babe, the Gallant Pig) is a 1995 fantasy film that tells the story of a talking pig who wants to be a herding dog. It stars James Cromwell and the voices of Christine Cavanaugh, Miriam Margolyes, Hugo Weaving, Miriam Flynn , Russi Taylor and Roscoe Lee Browne . The main animal characters are played by a combination of real and animatronic pigs and Border Collies.

The movie was adapted by George Miller and Chris Noonan from the novel The Sheep Pig by Dick King-Smith. It was directed by Noonan.

It won the Academy Award for Visual Effects, and was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (James Cromwell), Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another MediumThe Academy Award for Writing Adapted Screenplay is one of the Academy Awards, the most prominent film awards in the United States.
