The municipality Aukra in the county of Møre og Romsdal, Norway,

has 3,026 inhabitants as of January 1, 2002. Area: 59 km². It is the site of Norway's best-known shipwreck and rescue operation of the 1900s, of cargo vessel Rokta April 4, 1938. The monument of Rokta is situated on Rindarøy, with a view of Galleskjæra where Rokta sank.

Nyhamna on Aukra is also where the the enormous gas field Ormen Lange comes onstream in 2007.

The politicians expect a lot form the landbased production facility. Especially the taxes - which in their opinion far exceeds the externalities put on the inhabitants on Gossen
