Ashikaga Yoshihisa ( Jp. 足利 義尚) ( December 11, 1465April 26, 1489) was the 9th shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate who reigned from 1473 to 1489 during the Muromachi period of Japan. Yoshihisa was the son of the 8th shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa.

Since the almost 30-year-old shogun Yoshimasa had no heir by 1464, he adopted his younger brother Ashikaga Yoshimi in order to succeed him. However, Yoshihisa was born in the next year starting a struggle for succession between brothers that erupted into the Onin War starting in 1467, beginning the Sengoku period of Japanese historyPre-History/The Origin of History Jomon Period Main article: Jomon The origins of Japanese civilization are buried in legend. February 11, 660 BC is the traditional founding date of Japan by Emperor Jimmu Tenno. This however is a version of Japanese histo. In the middle of hostilities, Yoshimasa retired in 1473, relinquishing the position of Seii Taishogun to Yoshihisa.

After the Onin war, Rokkaku Takayori , the daimyoThe daimyo were the most powerful feudal rulers from the 12th century to the 19th century in Japan. After the Meiji restoration in 1869 the daimyo merged with the kuge to form a single aristocratic group, the kazoku. The term daimyo literally means "great of southern Omi province, seized land and manors owned by nobles of the imperial court, temples, and shrines. In 1487Events Richard Fox becomes Bishop of Exeter. May 24 Lambert Simnel is crowned King "Henry VI of England" in Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin, Ireland. He claims to be Edward, Earl of Warwick and rivals Henry VII for the throne of England. June 16 Battle of, Yoshihisa led a campaign (Rokkaku Tobatsu) against Rokkaku Takayori but died of disease in 1489 leaving no heir.

Yoshihisa was followed by his cousin, the 10th shogun Ashikaga YoshitaneAshikaga Yoshitane ( Jp. September 9, 1466 May 23, 1523) was the 10th shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate who reigned first from 1490 to 1493 and then again from 1508 to 1521 during the Muromachi period of Japan. Yoshitane was the son of Ashikaga Yoshimi and in the following year.
