Dr. Arik Soong is a criminal mastermind and follows the mad scientist archetype. While director of the Starfleet Medical facility Cold Station 12, he stole nineteen genetically enhanced " Augment" embryos placed in stasis after the end of the Eugenics War. He took the embryos to a remote and secluded planet, where he raised them and taught them they were gifted and superior. Starfleet caught up with Soong when he was off on a side trip, and imprisoned him ten years after the theft, leaving the Augments stranded on the remote planet with just his teachings and the physical necessities for survival. As they grew up alone, they became violently committed to the formation of a genetically engineered race of superhumans, believing themselves to be the future of humanity.
Dr. Soong has a disagreable personality. He likes to taunt or mock others, making fun of their situations. He is capable of showing great affection or even love towards his creations.
Twenty years after the theft, and 10 years into Soong's prison sentence, Soong's "Augments" steal a KlingonThis page is about the fictional race. For the language, see Klingon language. Klingons a race of humanoids in the fictional Star Trek universe, were the main antagonists in Star Trek: The Original Series and later became the uneasy allies of the United F Bird-of-preyBird-of-prey is a common name for various makes of Romulan and Klingon warship in the Star Trek fictional universe. Ships referred to as birds-of-prey include: The Romulan Bird-of-Prey class starship, a 2260s-era fighter seen in " Balance of Terror", feat. EnterpriseThe ''Enterprise (NX-01 is a starship in the Star Trek fictional universe commanded by Captain Jonathan Archer. It is the primary setting of the television series Star Trek: Enterprise''. Commissioned in 2151, the NX-01 was the first of the NX class, Star is tasked with finding them to avert a war with the Klingons, and takes Soong along to make the search easier. The Augments free Soong from the Enterprise brig and proceed to Cold Station 12, a Starfleet and Denobulan run medical facility where the remaining 1,800 genetically-enhanced embryos are stored.
Soong finds, to his dismay, that his Augments have taken his teachings to an extreme, and he escapes from the Bird-of-prey in order to help Enterprise stop them from starting a war with the Klingons.
Ultimately failing to prove that 'improved' humans could peacefully co-exist with the rest of the galaxy, upon returning to prison, Arik Soong admits that perfecting humanity may not be possible. He vows to find 'perfection' by creating artificial life, noting that he might not finish in his lifetime, and that it might take "a generation or two", a vision apparently passed on to his progeny, specifically Noonien SoongIn the fictional Star Trek: The Next Generation universe, Dr. Noonien Soong (played by Brent Spiner) is a human cyberneticist who lived on the colony Omicron Theta for several years, where he created six androids with positronic brains, the last two being, established to be his great-grandson.
The story ends on a positive note, leaving the viewers to think that it is likely that Soong was released from prison sometime before his death. It also leaves enough "open" ends to permit an eventual return of the character in subsequent episodes.
