Anti-imperialism is a current within the political left advocating the collapse of imperialism, i.e., the perceived empire of the United States of America. The movement's aim is to correct the harmful consequences believed to stem from imperialism. Adherents cite as an example the allegedly oil-driven war against Iraq that started in 2003. Tariq Ali, Gore Vidal and Noam Chomsky are three well-known anti-imperialist writers.
