Anti-Islamism is a term that usually refer to the position, that Islam and especially Islamic fundamentalism is a danger to Muslims and/or non-Muslims. Islam is viewed by anti-islamists as a religion, that through its influence will affect Muslims and non-Muslims in a negative way.
As a position Anti-islamism has most likely been growing in recent years, especially after the September 11 terrorist attacks and following increase in violent conflicts between Muslims and non-Muslims. Apart from these issues and conflicts, the rapidly growing number of Muslim immigrants has most likely added to anti-islamic sentiment in the these Western countries. Anti islamism though, is not a position that is restricted to members of the populations of the western world. Strong anti-islamic feelings and positions is not very uncommon in non-Western countries like India, Israel and Russia where the populations has experienced conflicts with members of the islamic religion.
