An antenna tuner is a device which allows the adjustment of the electrical antenna length to the wavelength of carrier you want to receive. This allows for example the use of one standard antenna for a broad wave spectrum which is often used in scanners. However, an electrically elongated antenna is never as good as an antenna with the precise physical length.
