Ancestry.com is a United States Internet company that supplies genealogical information.

It has a large number of different sources of information that may all be searched online. There is a preponderance of American sources, and most of the rest are British. Some of these are free, but the majority are accessible only by paid-up subscribers.

It has had a bad reputation in the past because its various terms and conditions were difficult to understand, and people who thought they were subscribing for a short while were locked-in for a year. Subscriptions are extended automatically unless you specifically cancel.

Their most important type of source is censuses, both British and American. But they also have a range of newspapers, parish records, directories etc.
