A large Honda car manfacturing plant is a major area industry, located in the southwest of Alliston, along Tottenham Road (Simcoe Road 10); under 1 km south of Highway 89 . The plant had a minor fire in the late 1990s. The town originally made a name for itself as a potato-growing area, which is still a viable industry in the town and is celebrated by the annual Potato Festival.
A famous citzien of Alliston is Sir Frederick Banting the inventor of insulin.
