Alhambra was founded in 1881. Recently, given the city's proximity to the Asian American-dominated Monterey Park, it has attracted many Chinese immigrants, and has developed an active Chinese business district on Valley Boulevard. It is the home of record producer and murder suspect Phil Spector.
