The Åland Islands, or Landskapet Åland in Swedish, are an autonomous, demilitarised and monolingually Swedish Provinceof Finland, consisting of more than 6,500 islands and skerries. Geographically, the Åland Islands are an archipelago at the entrance to the Gulf of Bothnia, about 40 km from the coast of Sweden, and 25 km from that of Finland.
