Home > Akira class starship
In the Star Trek fictional universe, the Akira class is a group of heavily armed starships used by Starfleet. It was probably first put into service during the 2360s in response to the growing Cardassian threat to the Federation and served during the Dominion War; several Akira class starships were destroyed by Cardassian orbital defense platforms in the Chin'toka system in 2374. The Akira class also served during the Battle of Sector 001 in 2373. Ships of the Akira class are large vessels composed of a circular, saucer-shaped primary hull with a low-slung navigational deflector and two beams rising from the top heading aft; the beams attach to an arch, which supports two warp nacelles at its ends and a weapons pod that fires photon torpedoes at its zenith. Like the Steamrunner class, the main bridge, primary dorsal phaser strip and lifeboats are embedded into the saucer to provide for better protection from enemy fire by blocking against attacks. The ventral saucer is occupied with the navigational deflector, a photon torpedo tube and additional lifeboats. The design of the Akira class superficially resembles a catamaran and the old NX class, particularly from the dorsal profile. In the real world, the Akira class was designed by Alex Jaeger of Industrial Light and MagicIndustrial Light + Magic is a motion picture special visual effects company, founded in July 1975 by George Lucas. Lucas wanted Star Wars to include visual effects that had never been seen on film before. He first approached Douglas Trumbull, famous for 2 and first appeared on .
1 Specifications
- Production facilities:
- Utopia Planitia Fleet YardsStar Trek locations In the fictional world of Star Trek, the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards is a large Federation shipyard in synchronous orbit over Utopia Planitia on Mars. The facility is known for the development and construction of starships and its dry, MarsMars is the fourth planet from the Sun in the solar system, named after the Roman god of war (the counterpart of the Greek Ares), on account of its blood red color as viewed in the night sky. Mars has two small moons, Phobos and Deimos, both small and odd
- Antares Fleet Yards , Antares IV
- Type: Heavy cruiser
- Dimensions:
- Height: 87.43 m
- Length: 464.43 m
- Beam: 316.67 m
- Accommodation: 500 standard, 4,500 limit
- Propulsion:
- One matterMatter is anything that has mass and occupies space. One [contemporary] view on matter takes it as all scientifically observable entities whatsoever. Matter can more accurately be defined as the energy that has a low vibratory rate, a compressed energy st/ antimatterAntimatter is matter that is composed of the antiparticles of those that constitute normal matter. In 1929 31, Paul Dirac put forward a theory that for each type of particle, there is an antiparticle for which each additive quantum number has the negative reactor powering two warp engines
- Two impulse engines
- Performance: Warp 9.8 for twelve hours
- Weapons:
- Three type-ten phaserA phaser is an electronic audio signal processor used to distort a sound signal by mixing a dry or unprocessed, signal with copy of itself that has been filtered through an all-pass phase shift network. As the filtered sound signal is mixed with the dry s emitters
- Fifteen photon torpedoThe photon torpedo (also known as "photorps" and "photons") an imaginary weapon of science fiction, is a space torpedo armed with an matter/ antimatter bomb. The concept is frequently mentioned within the fictional Star Trek, where these weapons are often launchers
- Defenses: Deflector shields
- Auxiliary vessels: Unknown number of shuttlecraft and/or other vessels in two shuttlebays at the stern of the saucer
