Active Desktop is a type of GUI (Graphical user interface) created by the men at Microsoft for the 16/32 bit Operating System (OS) of Microsoft Windows. This type of GUI is included in Windows 95 and up. It consists of many shortcuts to different programs contained in your Windows computer. The Active Desktop (genrally shortened to Desktop) can have several backgrounds, known as wallpaper. The wallpaper can be a personal picture, a preset image or a solid color.
